A relationship with a motorcycle is complicated and deep. Depending on whether you spend time tinkering about the bike or laying deeply into turns it can become even more complex still. Ultimately it often boils down to a profound exercise in focused intent. A willingness to set everything else aside and enter into the exhilaration of the moment while resting in a state of deep contemplation.

It’s hard to explain an experience like this to someone who has never done it. It’s deeply personal, yet to other riders it is knowledge of a moment we all share.

It’s even harder to leave an experience like this behind.

As I am no longer able to ride, I’ve had to let go of my KLR-650 over the past couple of weeks. It was my daily ride and ticket to a whole new way of looking at the world. It made good on promises of exploration, excitement and freedom. A reliable friend to whom I did not want to say goodbye.
